  1. TOUR FORMER US Expeditionary Forces Bases in N. Ireland

Brownlow House in County Armagh was the HQ for the United States Expeditionary Force based here in N.Ireland. Some 302,000 US Troops were stationed in N.Ireland and all were controlled from Brownlow HQ. Many Combat missions were planned here like Operation Torch, The Invasion of North Africa. Operation Fortitude North the Phantom Operation to convince the Germans Norway was to be invaded not France, and also hear. the part Brownlow House played in Operation OVERLORD Normandy and the D Day Landings. The Visit Of General Eisenhower who stayed two nights here in Brownlow House and see the room were the final meeting to discuss D Day was held.. While here visit our Two on site museums. Our superb WW2 American Troops Musemn, then our local history and WW1 museum. Take a guided of The wonderful Brownlow House with its 365 rooms and why not finish the day with a delicious meal prepared by our in house chefs. Visit the beautiful Lurgan Park on the very edge of Brownlow House , with its 57 acre man made Lake, were the US Forces Trained. All in all a memorable day to be had here in Brownlow House.

    Visit  “Base One Europe”, a U.S. Naval Base built in great secrecy by the Americans in 1941 and later called the US Naval Operating Base, Londonderry, and the Royal Naval Base, HMS Ferret.

    At the height of the war, Derry-Londonderry was home to thousands of US and British naval personnel, charged with servicing escort vessels that protected Allied merchant ships on their hazardous Atlantic crossings. It also provided respite to the US, British and Canadian crews of those ships.
